About the Department
The Department of Persian preserves and teaches the rich historical, poetic, and philosophical heritage of the Potohar and South Asian region. From classical sufi poetry (Rumi, Hafiz, Saadi, Iqbal) to modern linguistics, the department enriches the cultural and linguistic foundation of college scholars.
Why Study with Us
Persian was the court and literary language of South Asia for over eight centuries. Understanding Persian is indispensable for historical research, regional diplomacy, literary analysis of Iqbal's poetic works, and archiving historic manuscripts.
Vision
Preserving the classical literary heritage and sufi philosophy of the Persian language while developing critical literary scholarship in regional cultural history.
Mission
Deliver comprehensive coursework in classical Persian literature, Iqbalian philosophy, and manuscript studies to deepen understanding of regional history and artistic traditions.
